Calling All Angels!
Cancer has come to corrupt and affect many people’s lives in our recent day and age. Even worse is how brutally it has come to effect the lives of sweet little children. My 17-year old sister, Mandy, is one such life that this cruel disease took this past July. But it will not stop her memory from living on as boldly as she did.
Like all other children with cancer, Mandy was forced to endure many long and grueling stays in a hospital to undergo some very serious rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. During one particular stay in the hospital, a nurse came in and hung a stuffed angel by the halo onto Mandy’s I.V. pole. Since that stay, the angel would then be placed on her pole for all treatments thereafter. Looking up and seeing an angel looming over a child while she is fighting the fight for her life was one of the more reassuring things during these brutal times. It helps to remind us that Faith is alive and that Hope surrounds us all.
I am looking to collect any and all angels that are willing to be parted with. Send ones you have, or pick them up from dollar stores, garage sales, or toy stores if you happen to see one while shopping. I will warmly welcome and kind, whether glass, plastic, or stuffed. I will be affixing a loop to them to enable them to be hung on the poles, and all other donations will go to U of M Mott Children’s Hospital Cancer center.
Please spread the word and the e-mail to your friends and family. Many of you know my family and have helped us beyond our wildest dreams, so I would really love it if this was passed to more people who may not know us and simply want to make a difference. An outpouring of angels can help remind those battling the toughest fight they will ever face that Faith, Hope and Love are what we have left to see us though.
